Breakfast at Quà Phê

One of my favourite place for breakfast, precisely because they don’t do the croissant, and because I can’t say no to pork belly for brunch.

One of my favourite place for breakfast, precisely because they don’t do the croissant, and because I can’t say no to pork belly for brunch.

The Quà Phê sticks to their guns: They open early, but don’t try to fit into the German-continental breakfast culture at all. No bread, cake, muesli, muffins or the like: you get something different from the usual fare.

There is coffe, of course, both Vietnamese style and international classics.

Food-wise they’ll cater both to your sweet tooth, with items like the chocolate bao, and offer street food favorites for those who like it more savoury.

I personally enjoy hitting the place around 12:00, when they start serving their caramelized pork belly; and with that a refreshing “W Coffee” on yoghurt and honey. Yes, I do like my pork belly to start off a day.

Another plus: Given the absence of western “breakfasty” dishes, most people seem to consider the Quà Phê a lunch place. Even if you arrive around 12:00, as I often do, you’ll beat the crowds and easily find a nice spot all for yourself.

Of course you can go for lunch there, too, or have an afternoon coffee.

The staff is always friendly; your order at the counter and they’ll bring your food when it’s ready.
