Kaffeemitte

When we came Berlin in the early 2010s, this was the quintessential “hipster” place for us: We’d go and listen to the guy at the next table, boasting how he wasted €200 on drinks last night.

Fast forward a few years, and it now somehow feels like a classic. Obviously the tourist crowd is there – this is the Scheunenviertel, after all. But the staff is still genuine Italian, and you’ll get a decent cappuccino without much fuss.

The service always seems slightly disorganized, especially if you order food, which is somehow endearing, and means that you shouldn’t be in a hurry.

It’s a great place to sit outside in the sun, and watch the crowds. Come early enough so that you’ll still find a spot.
